The first impression of Vegas

The first things that come to our minds when thinking about Vegas are pretty much the same than the expectations we had. Vegas is a huge city with non-stop parties, a place where you can get married in a spur of the moment, where stunning casinos are competing over customers with special themes and a huge selection of entertainment. No wonder this city is called 'Sin City' because it seems it's easy to get things out of control if you have tendency to gamble, drink and party. We wouldn't recommend Vegas for kids since there aren't many places where persons under 21 can enter. It's also really easy to lose a sense of time when there aren't clocks inside the casinos and they want it that way for a reason.

You can't do much in Vegas if you don't match this criteria.

On our first whole day in Vegas we went to play poker to Flamingo because Emmi is crazy about Flamingos and we had heard that there are live flamingos.

We played $1/$2 NL Holdem for 6 hours and it was interesting that some rules weren't that strict on the table. For example you could use your phone while in a hand, when one player changed seats he played a hand while standing. There were also a few situations where dealers talked about cards on board and that way made it easier for beginners. All in all the atmosphere on the table was way better than anywhere else we have played before. There weren't any skilled players so we are definitely going there again. 

There was two situations in the sessions that we won't forget anytime soon. There was a hand between us two and another player. Emmi bet the flop and the other player showed his cards and folded while Henkka was still to act. The other player said that it doesn't matter that he showed his cards because we are married so it's obvious that we are playing together. The whole table including the dealer was on our side and then the guys tried to take back his words and he claimed he never said so. There was another crazy hand where Emmi was heads up with another player and had AQ and the flop came 34Q. Emmi asked another player his stack size and he showed his cards (KK). Then they checked the hand down to the river and Emmi saved a huge amount of money.

Today we are heading to Grand Canyon by a rental car which we decided to get because there weren't any good deals on accommodation since there are several events going on this weekend. You'll hear about our road trip on our next blog. 


We will write experiences when we get a change to explore the city more. Even with this little sneak peak we can say that Vegas is a massive playground for adults.

Ensimmäiset asiat, joita tulee Vegasista mieleemme vastasivat hyvin odotuksia, joita meillä oli. Las Vegas on kaupunki, jossa biletys ei koskaan lopu, voit mennä naimisiin hetken mielijohteesta ja paikka, jossa huikeat casinot kilpailevat asiakkaista hienoilla teemoilla ja runsaalla viihdetarjonnalla. Ei ihme, että tätä paikkaa kutsutaan nimellä Sin City. Hommat voi helposti karata käsistä, jos on taipumusta pelata, juoda tai juhlia liikaa. Emme suosittele Vegasia lapsille, sillä laaja viihdetarjonta on kohdennettu pääosin aikuisille. Casinoilla ei ole ollenkaan kelloja, joten ajantaju on helppo kadottaa, mutta sehän on juuri sitä mitä casinot haluavat.

Ensimmäisenä kokonaisena päivänä menimme pelaamaan pokeria Flamingo -casinolle, koska Emmi on aivan hulluna flamingoihin ja olimme kuulleet, että siellä on eläviä flamingoja.

Pelasimme $1/$2 NL Holdemia noin 6 tuntia. Oli jännä huomata, että kaikki säännöt eivät olleet ihan niin justiinsa. Esimerkiksi puhelinta sai käyttää, vaikka oli kädessä mukana ja kun yksi pelaaja vaihtoi paikkaa pöydässä, hän pelasi yhden käden seisaaltaan. Muutaman kerran jakajat kertoivat, mitä kortteja pöydässä oli ja näin helpottivat aloittelijoiden pelaamista. Kaiken kaikkiaan tunnelma pöydässä oli parempi, kuin missään missä olemme aikaisemmin pelanneet. Siellä ei ollut yhtään hyvää pelaajaa, joten menemme sinne aivan varmasti uudestaan.

Sessioon mahtui kaksi juttua, joita emme ihan heti unohda. Yksi käsi, jossa olimme me ja yksi muu pelaaja. Emmi panosti flopilla, tämä kolmas pelaaja foldasi ja näytti korttinsa samalla, vaikka Henkka oli vielä vuorossa seuraavana. Hän sanoi, että ihan sama vaikka näyttää korttinsa, koska me olemme naimisissa ja pelaamme yhteen. Kaikki pelaajat pöydässä ja jakaja olivat meidän puolella ja tämä meitä syyttänyt pelaaja yritti väittää ettei koskaan ollut syyttänyt meitä mistään. Toinen mielenkiintoinen käsi tuli hetkeä myöhemmin, siinä Emmi oli kahdestaan toisen pelaajan kanssa. Emmillä oli AQ ja floppi oli Q43. Emmi kysyi toiselta pelaajalta, että paljonko hänellä on merkkejä jäljellä, jolloin tämä pelaaja näytti kätensä (KK). Molemmat checkasivat turnin ja riverin ja Emmi säästi suuren määrän merkkejä.

Emme löytäneet hyviä majoitusdiilejä, koska tänä viikonloppuna Vegasissa on niin paljon tapahtumia, joten vuokrasimme auton ja tänään lähdemme Grand Canyonille. Kirjoitamme seuraavassa blogissa meidän roaptripistä.

Kirjoitamme kokemuksistamme Vegasissa lisää myöhemmin, mutta jo tämän pienen vilauksen perusteella voimme sanoa, että Vegas on kuin suuri leikkikenttä aikuisille.
